Ontario Working Group for Collaborative Risk-driven Community Safety and Well-being

In partnership with the original founding agencies (Toronto-Rexdale, Waterloo Region, Greater Sudbury, Peel Region, MCSCS and the OACP) Global Network founders played key roles in the formation, grant development and execution of the OWG’s research, deliberations and expansion through 2014 to 2016. GN President Norm Taylor is co-author of the comprehensive OWG papers emerging from both years, with additional contributions coming from Brent Kalinowski and Dr. Chad Nilson.

Ottawa, Ontario

The development and deployment of the Multi-Agency Risk Intervention Table (MERIT) model in the nation’s capital represents one of the largest urban applications to date of risk-driven collaborative approaches to CSWB. Piloting in the southeast part of the city, but often encountering situations from across the national capital region, this is a highly disciplined and high profile model. In addition, many of the partners involved have also deployed a Multi-Agency Approach to Problem Addresses (MSAPA), and the intersection of these and other collaborative models have provided learning and new insights locally and for interested practitioners everywhere.

Global Network founders Norm Taylor, Brent Kalinowski, Lisa Taylor and Dr. Chad Nilson provided continuing support to the development and launch of the MERIT model through 2014 and 2015, and continued to assist with the establishment of new practices and tools to navigate the interfaces among MERIT, MSAPA and other collaborations.

Peterborough, Ontario

As a result of months of local work and collaborative efforts, The Peterborough Risk Driven Situation Table was launched in June 2016, becoming one of our newest risk driven collaborative initiatives. Situated 125 km North East of Toronto, and with a population nearing 80,000, Peterborough human service providers including Police, Education, Social Services, Mental Health, Child Welfare, and Addictions gather weekly to discuss situations of acute risk and plan to intervene with supports and assistance for individuals and families in Peterborough.

The Peterborough Risk Driven Situation Table was guided and supported by The Global Network via community engagement, on site advisory support, interactive online training, information sharing and policy support, as well as on-site training and launch of the table in June. Still early in its development, the Peterborough collaborative continues to maintain a relationship with our firm as they grow and serve the community in new and collaborative ways.

BRIDGE is a provincial wide community safety and well-being initiative in Prince Edward Island focusing on risk driven collaborative interventions and multi sector supports for those at risk. With a single Situation Table based in the capital city of Charlottetown, the BRIDGE initiative also features a unique, province-wide deployment of trained multi-sector specialists to bring interventions closest to those who need them.

Our Global Network team is currently enagaged through the PEI Ministry of Justice and is working will all BRIDGE partners on the development, training and launch of the island’s Situation Table, and guiding the architecture and roll out of all related CSWB elements.
